What is a Payment Gateway?
A payment gateway is the engine that fuels the communication and transmission of data between the functional components of the payment process. It relays the request for payment (which may come from a shopping cart, a virtual terminal, an in-house accounting system, or even a retail terminal) in the appropriate electronic format to the appropriate entity (a bank, Visa/MasterCard, or processor). Then it relays the response or authorization that sets the funds transfer activity.
Security Features
Security is important before, during and after the payment processing process. To fully ensure security, Sage Payment Solutions employs proven technology to transmit data safely and best practices procedures to safeguard consumer data. Sage Payment Solutions is PCI compliant, which requires diligent adherence to anti-fraud measures to protect merchants and consumers.
Sage Gateway utilizes Secure Socket Layer (SSL) authentication and encryption technology. This is patented technology developed by Netscape Communications and relies on encryption developed by RSA Data Security, Inc. and other cryptographic providers. SSL encryption protects information being transmitted across the Internet from third parties. |

About Payment Card Industry (PCI) Compliance
The PCI Standard is a mandatory global standard established by the Card Associations to ensure the protection of cardholder data. Based on twelve guidelines, the PCI Standard requires merchants to make their physical and virtual environments secure to ensure protection of cardholder data. As a merchant accepting credit cards as a form of payment, you are required by the Card Associations to adhere to the PCI Standard. The PCI standard encompasses the security programs from Visa and MasterCard, CISP and SDP, respectively.
The PCI standard sets technology requirements such as the use of data encryption, end-user access control, and activity monitoring and logging. It also includes procedural mandates, such as the need to implement formal and documented security policies and vulnerability-management programs. Compliance with the standard applies to all types of merchants, retail, mo/to, and Internet. All merchants need to follow best practices for storage and destruction of all paper or electronic records containing account numbers or cardholder data. Additionally, merchant service providers processing credit cards need to be PCI compliant. |

Electronic Check Services
Safe and simple for consumers and businesses, Electronic Check Services moves payments electronically from your customer’s checking account to your Merchant Account. This can be done by both Internet merchants (consumer initiated) and MO/TO merchants (merchant initiated). This differs from POS check conversion and check lockbox services.
Electronic Check Services is a true Automated Clearing House (ACH) product that requires no double entry or back-end check printing. It works like a paper check, without the additional costs and time delays. Electronic Check Services processes payments and displays real-time reports from any Internet enabled PC – providing convenient access away from the office.
Why Use Electronic Check Services?
1. Consumers without credit cards can use virtual checks to purchase goods and services via the Internet or MO/TO.
2. Checks are the most popular form of payment for both b2b and b2c.
3. They are a secure payment alternative to credit cards.
4. Virtual Check, in conjunction with the Gateway, can be integrated into your accounts receivable system to simplify your reconciliation process.
5. The reject period is shorter for checks than credit cards.
6. Recurring virtual check payments lower collection costs for businesses. |
